My friend, Manuela, picks me up at the airport and we head over to Knoxville Catholic where we meet Barrie Smith for a concert. We stop at the cafeteria where a peanut butter and jelly sandwich calls to me. I answer. Soonafter, I've got my guitar slung over my shoulder and croonin' a tune about the days of yore.
I have no idea what that means. 650 students with matching teachers, and we're having one heck of a hootenannie. The hour flies by and the group jump right into the cheers, the prayer, the stories, and rumor has it, some laughter as well....
Hey now. Afterwards, Manuela and I give Barrie a high five, then we head over to the site where the Diocese of Knoxville is having their conference. Preston and Tom, from Hiking 4 Jesus, is there. Two kooky kats. Steve Angrisano is there too. Go figure. We are having fun. It's cool just to sit back and see Steve work. And let me tell you, the man knows his Starbucks coffee. He rattles off his order like a litany: I'll have a non-fat, sugar-free, decaf latte, shaken, not stirred, with a hint of razzleberry juice, hold the mayo because I'm lactose intolerant and two packs of splenda." DUDE, I exaggerate but I'm still close. Oh, yes, I forgot, "And really HOT. No, really, make it HOT." You starbuckians crack me up. It's good to see Steve. It's even better just hanging out afterwards to catch up and encourage each other. Here Linda thought she was doing something for her youth, and boom-bada-bing, she did something wonderful for Steve and I. Manuela and friends help sell tees shirts; at the end of the conference, Tom, Preston, and myself, start Hiking 4 Jesus all the way to airport.
