Over to Great Falls, Montana, on Nov. 3rd. "Open Our Hearts, Lord" is the theme of the conference, and a theme for life if you asked me. Anthony Allen, all around good guy, picks me up at the airport. It's a two day conference with youth from all over the diocese, at St. Luke Catholic Church. I meet Ester Marie, Eric, David, Brandon, Danielle, Tessa, Tani and Selena...and a partridge in a pear trea. Rockin. I get to see my old friend Aubrey Reardon, who I met several years prior to this trip. She's still a music maniac, leading the music ministry. She's also a wife and a mom! HELLO! The day is filled with keynotes, workshops, gift young people all over the place. Round of applause for the youth ministers, and other adults who supported with their presence.

Over to Jackson, MI, for a two day retreat with Lumen Cristi Catholic High School. Tony and Anna pick me up at the airport. Carl Falter invited me two years ago, and here we are again, eating dinner at the Hunt Club. On Tuesday, we get the juniors and seniors, with the freshman and sophmores on Thursday. Students, Tyrell, Terence, Austin, Mike, Julie, Elsa, Mike, Adam, Dan, Kendzie and Ian. Lots of courageous students on and off stage. God bless Hallie on the Tee shirt table! Met Todd, shared a meal at Red Lobster. Dude has faith. Pat, Joan, Andie and Luke just chomping away at Bollingers. Hey, I blog about eating alot don't I? Wednesday night I'm at Queens...very cool church with a huge gathering of candidates for confirmation and everybody else on the planet. Tony S, Fr. Nate, John on sound, Peter, Keith, parents, children, sponsors...and me.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, before you know it, it's Friday and I'm on a plane to Gaylord, MI, to meet with Pattie Rioux (pronounced RIO) and the one I like to call, Ms. Stacy Popp! Or Popp Girl. Or S-Popp. Land in Traverse City, Stacy takes me on the Traverse City Tour. We see lakes. Ice Cream parlor. More lakes. Lakefront property. New housing developments. Snow. More snow. And then drive 10,000 miles to Gaylord. Serious snow, friends. I've got natural padding, so if I'm feeling cold, heeey. Say a prayer for the skinny folks!

Diocese of Gaylord...Pattie Rioux, Dannie, Stacy Popp, powerful teens who crack me up. Sat at lunch with a group of teens and we thumb wrestled, did a serious roshambo contast, and shared Fritos. The day went by way too fast, "Making of Disciples" was the theme, and it was been lived out all over the place. Day cut short by United Airlines flight cancellation, and the need to get to Cedar Rapids the same night. Pattie leaves the conference to take me to the airport, a two hour drive, at least! So generous, is Pattie Rioux and the diocese, that I'm returning to the scene of the joy for more adventures! No, really, I am.

I jump on the plane that's delayed...and delayed...but eventually make it to Cedar Rapids where Pat Finan is patiently waiting! I'm pretty exhausted so I head over to the hotel and crash...morning arrives and it's on. There's about 18,000 teens at this event, okay, well maybe not, but there's a ton of teenagers at this event. Chris is rocking the house band, and being "Catholic to the Core" begins. I see the Rolings family. How the heck did Luke get to be as tall as a tree?! It's a one day event, but there is so much going on in this place. Small groups everywhere. Other breakout sessions. I sit down with two teens who are excited about their first time at the conference. I see my old buddy Joe Dvorak. A freshman named Daniel tells me about his excitement about learning guitar. He feels bad that he can't afford lessons, and I tell him that I've never had a lesson in my life. I also encourage him to learn to read music too. Man, play by ear and sight? BAM. Spent time at the dinner, and even snuck into the dance for mere 7 minutes. I rock. It's over before it's begun but it's never really over. Not if you're Catholic to the core....
