I used to play at the school mass for DeLaSalle Catholic High School in Concord, CA. Also visited Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep in San Francisco. The two have something very remarkable in common. They're LaSallian communities. On this visit, I spent a some time at their leadership conference, students from LaSallian communityies from all over California and beyond. It's always great to see young people in the church in leadership for their communities and the Church in general. My nephew, Steven, is a student at St. Mary's College, where the conference was being held. High fives to him for showing up and saving the day pulling microphones and a sound system for me at the last minute. My friends Robert Jordan and Kathy Lorentz were smack dab in the middle of the activity. Got to help lead the music for mass on Friday and made some cool connections with other LaSallian families from all over the state. LaSallian schools do more than just prepare students for higher education at university. They prepare students for discipleship and action in the name of the Church and the gospel. This community understands deeply what the mission of the Church is and how that can be and must be lived out as a foundation of education and life in general. How cool is that?
