July 7-9, 2006
The place, DFW Hyatt Grand Hotel. The time, sometime on Friday. The purpose, the Diocesan Catholic Youth Conference, aka, DCYC. Sr. Mary, Mike Patin, and local folks leading the weekend of renewal and recommitment to living the faith that we claim. A group of teens joined our music team, along with a couple of adults giving serious and essential help. Singers, guitarists, drummers, sax players, trombone, and even a bass player. Vince Lujan kicked in on electric guitar while Curtis and I did our best impressions of David Crowder meets David Wilcox meets John Mayer meets Mike Knuckleberry. Whos is he? I don't know. Same question that Curtis and I get; who are they?
Lots of youth ministers, adult chaperones and volunteers help make this thing happen. It's quite the endeavor and labor of love and faith. How Kevin Prevou and his team of ministers get it done., I'd have to blame that on the Holy Spirit. Bishop Kevin shows up and jams some serious keyboard playing. The crowd is moving to LEAN ON ME. Sr. Mary and Mike deliver their usual powerful, engaging, and challenging message of the gospel. It's just plain amazing to see a room full of junior high and high school students being captivated all at once AND connecting to their faith, the peace and unrest of Jesus and the mission of the Church. BAM. Looking forward to joining DCYC again next year. Hope to see even more folks come out. Don't know if we'll fit in the hotel, but it's all good. We'll make room.
