Right after the concert at St. Alphonsus, in Peterborough, Kenny and I jumped in the van with Carl Moher, beloved of Ruthie, and off to London, Ontario, at least a three hour drive. I called "shotgun" for Kenny so that I could totally snooze. He must have asked Carl over twenty thousand questions to keep each other awake. I supervised....zzzzz. We made it London around 2:30AM or so....checked into the hotel and tried to catch some sleep. Jim Donovan would be picking us up in a few hours, so sleep was in order. Morning rudely interrupted some serious deep sleep
and in 15 minutes Kenny and I were dragging ourselves from our rooms to the hotel lobby, where Jim was waiting. Into the van and over to the event. No time for breakfast as we had to rush to a sound check. Brian, all-around good guy "one who walks with young people," delivered sound and lights, as well as a group of music ministers, Circle of Friends, that included Jessica, Laura, and Emily, wonderful young ministers in the Church. Brian led the music ministry during the day as well as for mass. Bishop Fabbro attended and gave an address to the young people that day. Lots of great folks put the event together and it rocked. Annette Panchaud Donovan, beloved of Jim, was the mojo behind the ministry. Annette pulled together a great core of adult volunteers, ministers for liturgy, invited Fr. Santo and Fr. Matt, and a great core of volunteers that planned, prepared, set-up, cooked, served, celebrated, tore down, cleaned up, and lifted up the Light of Christ. In fact, the conference, appropriately named, Northern Lights, was a huge source of hope and light for both youth and adults. I won't forget Raymond who knows that God has no doubts about him...I won't forget Nick, Craig, Danielle, Gloria, and Justin; Kyle, AKA K-Swiss, Marcel, two extraordinary emcees, Jessie and Al; Patrick, Ambre, Ashley; Kevin and Karen, Lisa, Patricia, Jerry, Katy, Claire, Peter and everyone else who was a great source of light and hope in the church and in the world!

PHOENIX, ARIZONA, MAY 6, 2006
Arrive into Phoenix at Lord knows when. I'm dazed from the schedule. Somebody smack me! Nancy Wagoner picks me up at the airport and drops me off at the hotel so I can get a little more rest before the full day begins! It will be a full schedule at Corpus Christi Church. Going to present at 2PM with the whole parish, 4PM with Junior High, mass at 5:30, and a high school "end of the year" celebration at 7:15PM!
Met the dynamic duo of brothers Chris and Michael Campbell and their awesome music ministry....Danyelle, Justen, Darlene; God bless John and his new adventure taking the baton from Nancy who as been serving for a lifetime, the young church....I'm talking over 17 years, if my memory serves me correctly. That's a lifetime friends! Somebody give Nancy a party!
Nancy's the kind of baptized follower of Jesus the rebel, who understands sacrifice and celebration. Following Jesus the rebel will not make you comfortable or even remotely safe. If anything, Jesus will lead us to the absolute opposite of what we are comfortable doing and dupe us into going to places and people with whom safety and comfort are the last fruit of the experience. But those places and people are the right place to be.
Work for justice. Make peace. Passionately and non-violently. Build up the young, reverence the old, the orphan, the widow, the immigrant. Welcome everyone. Exclude no one.
